Susan Alexander of 5 Funny Females Interview

Susan Alexander 5 Funny Females

Susan Alexander of 5 Funny Females

Comedian Susan Alexander hosts and produces 5 Funny Females, a national touring stand-up comedy show with a line-up of the most talented up and coming female comedians in over 10 US cities to sold-out audiences.

You are always on the move. I’m not even sure if you live in NY or CA?
Me neither. I love being on both coasts. Right now I live in NYC but will be heading to California for shows.

You make people thirsty talking about your current beverages in social media. What would you be drinking right now if you could have the drink of your dreams?
Have two drinks that are my all time favorites: Vietnamese iced coffee and Patron on rocks with fresh limes.

You have a little bit of a biting risqué adult comedy thing going on sometimes, delivered with a very non-threatening, genteel demeanor. Did you talk like that before you were a comedian, or is that a developed delivery technique?
I’ve talked like that since elementary school. Seriously, it’s my own voice and natural delivery. When I started stand-up I thought I had to deliver jokes in a certain way and it seemed forced. Once I just trusted myself on stage I went back to my own natural delivery. Of course, you still have to practice your jokes at shows, open mics and cocktail parties.

So how is Dead Dad doing? How did you start incorporating him into your material?
He is loving all the attention and being an ‘Editor’s Pick’ clip on RooftopComedy, I just started putting my Dead Dad into my act last year. Felt like I had so much of my mother in my act but it’s my Dead Dad who always told me to follow my passions.

Being the glamorous IGIGI spokes model that you are, you must have chubby chasers and just about everyone else climbing over the tables to get to you at shows. What is the most ridiculous way a man (or woman) has tried to flirt with you?
Thank you for your kind words. Most ridiculous way someone has tried to flirt with me is in front of their wife/girlfriend. If you are disrespecting the person you’re with, please don’t think I want to be with you.

How many 5 Funny Females shows will you have this year?
Usually average about 20 to 25 shows a year. That is about how many I will have in 2010 and going to more cities.

How does the 5 Funny Females Festival differ from your standard 5 Funny Females show? Who is in the lineup?
The 5 Funny Females Festival in San Francisco’s legendary Purple Onion on Feb 5th & 6th will feature the best and funniest variety of female comics who have been on my shows from NYC, Boston, LA and SF. This will be the first time I will have 17 different female comics on shows all weekend long and the funniest shows ever to hit San Francisco. Below are the line-ups:

I’m sure just about every female comedian around would like to be in a 5 Funny Females show. What is your criteria for adding people to your lineups?
Always looking to add new funny females to the shows. It’s a combination of location and if the comedian has TV ready material. They can send me a bio and clips to .

  3. Hey everyone, greetings from New York. Does anyone have any advice about staying out of the “Friend Zone” with girls? Honestly I’m sick of women telling me they “just want to be friends.”

  4. How did you validate that info? Very interesting :)

  10. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.

  18. Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Any way I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon.

  19. Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.

  20. All very true, but I don’t take that view myself. I will go along with the more traditional view. But I definitely support your right to say what you want. Interesting anyway.

  21. Ha!Hey!Hah!. That’s interesting. That’s the first time I’ve foundsomething like that. Cool.

  24. @ Mark I know what your mean. In todays economy its hard to find a career that pays well and is consistent. I have found that if you just work hard and are consistent you can succeed. Look at the writer of this article, they are oviously a hard worker and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. I would encourage everyone to just keep hustling and moving forward.
